Center for the Study of Asian American Health
Services Provided: The NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) consists of a comprehensive network of community organizations, community leaders, academic medical centers, and health care institutions that are committed to identifying health priorities and reducing health disparities. Its mission is to examine specific health challenges in the Asian American community, establish an environment that will promote an increased representation of Asian Americans in conducting and participating in community-based participatory research, and educate Asian American communities regarding their risks for specific diseases and chronic conditions. CSAAH has been able to follow through with its mission through the establishment of a series of training seminars, workshops, and an annual conference to encourage minority participation in working on health disparities research focusing on the Asian American community. It has also partnered with community-based organizations to conduct community health needs assessments to determine the health priorities and concerns perceived by various Asian ethnic groups and developed community-wide coalitions. In addition, CSAAH has partnered with community
groups for various research initiatives in cardiovascular disease, cancer, infectious disease, mental health, and occupational health.
