The Chinatown YMCA is a key branch of the YMCA of Greater New York. With our heart in Chinatown and our programs increasingly located throughout the Lower East Side, we have been building spirit, mind, and body through innovation and excellence for over 35 years. As a result of a unique mix of program sites, funding streams, and operating strategies, our branch is able to engage and empower over 15,000 diverse individuals, 8,000 of whom are youth and teens. We reach rich and poor, young and old, people of all ethnic and racial backgrounds and with an array of needs and interests. Whenever possible, our program impacts the entire family and provides a continuum of programming – from recreation and education to family support and ESOL. Our New Americans Welcome Center is integrated into everything we do at the branch, and through this program we have been successful in providing direct services to hundreds of families each year. The breakdown below by site and program will give you a good idea about how we accomplish so much, epitomizing our commitment efficiency, endurance, and excellence. Our program sites include Houston Street Center, Hester Street Community Center, Millennium High School, Two Bridges Community Center, PS 126, P.S. 42 (71 Hester Street), P.S. 137 (297 East Broadway) and P.S. 361 (610 East 12th Street).
