Cindy Hsu co-anchors the station's NEWS at NOON and NEWS at 5PM. She joined CBS 2 in 1993 as a correspondent. She recently presented CRISIS IN CHINATOWN, an in-depth look at the economic impact to the home of the majority of Chinese New Yorkers. Prior to joining WCBS-TV, Hsu worked as a reporter and anchor for WFRV-TV Green Bay, Wisc. and WTOV-TV Steubenville, Ohio. She began her broadcasting career as an associate producer for WTVR-TV Richmond, Va. Since joining CBS 2, Hsu's work has exposed the horrific plights of Chinese refugees from the Golden Venture ship. This riveting piece, "Smuggled from China," earned her a New York Emmy Award for Outstanding Single Hard News Story. Hsu also won an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of an Anticipated Breaking News Story when she followed the snowstorm of 1994. The North Jersey Press Club has also recognized and awarded her work. Hsu spends much of her off-duty time performing community work. She is a big sister and sits on the Advisory Board of APEX, a group that pairs Asian professionals with recent immigrants and young people who need guidance. Hsu serves on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Chinese in the Americas and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Additionally, Hsu has been the co-chair of Cooks for Kids, an annual event that raises money for children living with AIDS and HIV. She has also served on the Newswatch Advisory Council, which monitors fairness in journalism, and is a former President of the New York Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association. Hsu is also a world-class dragon boater, competing with team Women in Canoe. They represented the United States in the 2001 World Championship. Hsu was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Coast Guard family that moved every two to four years. She was graduated from Virginia Tech University in 1988 with a degree in communication studies. Hsu currently resides in New York City. |
