Greater Chinatown Community Association (GCCA)
Executive Director

The Greater Chinatown Community Association (GCCA) is searching for an Executive Director to lead the organization through an exciting and challenging stage of development. Candidates should have a proven track record of management and new business generation in the not-for-profit or for-profit sector.

GCCA’s mission is to improve the well-being of the NYC Chinatown community through unique, individualized program services. Established in 1972, GCCA has been a pioneer and innovator in the provision of resources and assistance to recent immigrants and senior citizens. Our clients face a wide range of problems, including: illiteracy and language barriers, unemployment, lack of access to social benefits, and poor health conditions. As of Census 2000, the New York Metropolitan area has the largest Chinese population in the United States. In particular, this population struggles with a 60% limited English proficiency rate and 22% living in poverty.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Manage the annual revenue and expense budget and annual fundraising campaign to meet overall budgetary demands of GCCA.
  • Develop 6-month and 12-month financial targets in collaboration with Board.
  • Create and implement programs that are paid either by fee-for-service or restricted grants. Ensure that operating costs for programs support themselves as well as contributing to GCCA’s general operating fund.

Program Leadership

  • Manage programs and work with staff and Board of Directors to design and implement GCCA’s business model which includes market driven programs, currently including literacy classes (ESL), computer classes, and Chinese health & wellness classes.
  • Track and monitor milestones and deliverables to ensure that programs operate within stated mission and goals.
  • Assess & update strategic priorities with the Board.

Fundraising and Grant Writing

  • Develop and execute a development program for new and ongoing fundraising, including major gifts, events and grant writing.
  • Increase the fundraising and income generating capacity of GCCA, increasing public/private foundation support by minimum of 20% in first year.
  • Serve as key spokesperson for GCCA, implementing a plan for increased visibility and brand awareness of GCCA within the community and funders.
  • Cultivate relationship with new public and private funders, as well as maintaining and solidifying relationships with existing funders.

People Management

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of successful management experience
  • High energy, passionate leader with strong, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as strategic thinking
  • Not-for-profit management experience working with a volunteer board
  • Knowledge of NYC foundations, corporations, government and other funders
  • Result orientated leader ; self directed professional with entrepreneurial attitude
  • Demonstration of success in program/project launch
  • Ability to reach out to different constituencies (e.g. comfortable with CEOs as well as grass roots organizers)
  • Desire to work with and empower others
  • Ability to work with limited resources
  • Familiarity with community-based organizations and issues in Chinatown community
  • Preferred bilingual (Chinese/English) speaker, but no language fluency other than English is required

Compensation

  • $50,000 - $65,000 annual salary range depending on qualifications
  • Health benefits and vacation time
